With Women, treatment is aimed at regulating the menstrual cycle, improving the Yin and Yang energies so that conception is more likely to take place and, if necessary, removing pathogenic factors, such as Damp, which obstruct the flow of energy (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is an example of such obstruction). In Men, the semen takes about 80 days to come to maturation. Acupuncture can help with improving the quantity and quality of the sperm and this involves weekly treatment over a period of about three months. IVF and other ART techniques – to achieve the greatest benefit from acupuncture when combining it with IVF, three stages of treatment are carried out: - a preparation phase during which a diagnosis is made following the principles of Chinese Medicine; - a support phase, which begins when the woman starts taking her hormone regime; - the embryo transfer during which a specific protocol carried out before and after the transfer has been shown to increase significantly the rate of pregnancy. This can be done in situ at the Oxford Fertility Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. |
